I must have dozed off for a while. Midori woke me up. “Jack, breakfast is ready.” She brought it out on a tray, along with some hot coffee.

After she placed it on the coffee table, I glanced at the tray for fingers, and asked, “What did you do with the fingers?”

“They’re in the freezer.”

“Good, we can eat them tomorrow.”

Midori giggled. “That’s very funny. I wonder what they taste like?”

“Chicken,” I told her.

I was enjoying my food when I heard the elevator door open. Midori and I both turned to see who was entering our flat, as I reached for my Glock. Kamata walked in with Fujimoto following him. I stood up as they entered the room.

Kamata had a serious game face on as he sat down next to me. He said, “I wanted to have a meeting with my most trusted friends to discuss the situation.”

Without asking, Midori went into the kitchen and returned with coffee for everyone. I watched Fuji try to pick up the tiny cup in his bear-like hands and almost laughed.

Kamata took a sip of kohi (coffee) and looked at me. “Jack-san, how well did our defenses work?”

I glanced at Fuji and Kamata. “Our men did well and no one was injured or killed, but we were lucky.”

“Why were we lucky?”

“We are lucky no one was killed because they had automatic weapons. Our men couldn’t return enough fire fast enough. Our M4s are only semi-automatic.”

“Why is that?”

“That was all we could buy. Also, they had twelve men. We were out gunned.”

Kamata said, “I see. Fujimoto, do you agree with him?”

“Hai,” Fuji said.

“So, fix that right away,” Kamata ordered.

“Yes, it will be fixed as soon as we obtain the M249 machine guns.” I replied.

“Fuji told me that you and Midori created a crossfire. He said that was the only thing that stopped the fighting.”

“Yes, that’s probably correct.”

“I see.” Kamata took a sip of coffee. “Why did you put Midori in danger?”

“I didn’t put her danger. She took off after the first two guys that came here. I tried to stop her, but she wouldn’t listen.”

Fuji interrupted, “Kamata-san, Jack tried to stop her. She did not obey his order.”

“Is that true, Midori?” Kamata asked.

Midori hung her head. “Yes, it is true. I ran after the men. I disobeyed Jack’s order.”

“Why did you do that? Why do you risk getting killed? It was a very stupid move.”

Midori did not respond.

“You must not risk your life again. Do you understand, my little Warrior?”

“Hai, wakarimasan (Yes, I understand).”

“You are very important to me. If you die, then my heart will also die.”

There was a minute or two of awkward silence. Then Kamata continued, “Let us discuss Yamaguchi.” He glanced at Midori and Fujimoto. “Do either of you think Yamaguchi would try to kill me?”

Fujimoto replied, “I do not know, Kamata-san. Maybe he wants to be Boss.”

“He’s power hungry and I think he would try to kill you if he could gain control of the Clan,” Midori advised.

Turning to gaze at me, Kamata asked, “What do you think, Jack?”

“I don’t know the man,” I replied.
